When should you start preschool and why

The preschool will assist your child in gaining confidence

Day care facilities may accept different age range of children, and can start as early as 18 months to two years. Preschools are also called as day care centers, early childhood centers, or pre-kindergartens.

The age you child should starts a preschool, entirely depends on the readiness of your child and the maturity level. Now days, the preschool is not only the place for education and social environment, but also a necessary place for working parents.

Starting an adequate school will allow your child's social and learning skills to develop, as well as his or her self esteem. According to the teachers, it's not necessary to put your child in an organized pre-kindergarten program, but it is essential to expose them to group activities such as playgroups.

To help your child's social development, you can involve your child in to some enrichment afterschool programs, socializing with other kids on the playgrounds, or just have play dates with friends in your home. Your child will be able to still learn the benefits (with your encouragement and supervision of course) of sharing, taking turns and understanding.


When you start searching for school, you need to start way in advance to give yourself time to research preschools for the best on to fit your child's and your needs. There are many schools with different teaching styles and programs. Yu need to visit the schools, talk to the teachers and parents to get the best idea about the school and the environment.

As a parent, you need to prepare your child for this new transition of going to preschool. And you should make it as easy as possible. Any changes for the little ones are very big steps and millstones.

It would be great that you can tell your child what to expect at school, and best if you can bring your child to school prior to enrollment and the beginning of the school. This way the child becomes more familiar with the teachers, environment and the kids.

You always want to give your child something that reminds them of their home, sort a security toy or blanket that would make them feel more comfortable in the new environment.

It is best to spend some time at school on the first day of your child's enrollment, to make sure that your child is able to adapt to the new environment. If your work situation allows, you can spend a few weeks with your child at school, or at least for couple of hours in the morning.

Missing out on those important years of pre-school, may delay your child's development in the academic school, and put them behind the others who learned these skills at preschool.
